About This Project

A large version of Anna Hyatt Huntington’s sculpture Fillies Playing was cast only once during the artist’s lifetime. In 2010, Brookgreen Gardens was fortunate to acquire a modern-day casting from a bronze studio that created new molds from the original model.

Directly adjacent the colonnade which joins the Welcome Center and Keepsakes Gift Shop, Environmental Concepts designed a home for the new acquisition that revitalized the Welcome Center’s garden portal.

Respecting existing architectural cues, the plaza transformed a large oval lawn into a multi-function terrace with spacious walkways and raised planters that can easily host a variety of events and exhibits as well as providing a hint to guests of the beautiful garden visitor experience that lies ahead.
